Windfish festival and trolling competition

The 17th Windfish Festival will take place on May 29th 2027 at Orjaku Harbour on Hiiumaa island.

Windfish festival is annual event held in Hiiumaa island in the honour of garfish on last Saturday of May. Fish with needle jaw and green bones which comes to Baltic sea just for a month in spring to spawn. It mostly arrives with southwest winds so locals call it windfish.

An important part of the festival is the windfish trolling competition, which has been held since 2010 and is the largest recreational fishing event in Estonia by number of participants, attracting over 300 people. The most exciting moment of the festival is the joint start of the competitors in Jausa Bay.

You can get the taste of the fish on the foodfair held in the marina, as well enjoy culture programme and workshops. There are activities for whole family.

While the big fishermen are out at sea catching fish, a fishing competition for younger fishing enthusiasts takes place nearby on the Puulaiu channel.
